DESCRIPTION:An invitation from the Oxford Society \nRentrée dinner\, speaker Lord Hague \nWednesday 30th September \n \nThe Oxford Society of Paris is delighted to announce their rentrée event\, a dinner with Lord Hague\, Chancellor of Oxford \nBorn in Rotherham in 1961 he was first educated at Wath-Upon-Dearne Comprehensive School\, before moving on to study at Magdalen College\, becoming President of the Oxford Union and graduating in 1982 with First Class honours and the College Prize in PPE. Later he took an MBA at INSEAD in France. \nAfter commencing a business career with McKinsey & Co\, William was elected as the MP for Richmond\, Yorkshire. He served for 26 years in the House of Commons in many senior roles\, in particular Secretary of State for Wales 1995-1997\, Leader of the Conservative Party 1997-2001\, and First Secretary of State and Foreign Secretary 2010-2014. \nAs Minister for Disabled People he was responsible for the landmark Disability Discrimination Act of 1995. During his time as Foreign Secretary William received global recognition for the Campaign to Prevent Sexual Violence in Conflict\, which he co-founded with Angelina Jolie. \nWell known as an author\, William has written biographies of William Pitt the Younger (2005 History Book of the Year award) and William Wilberforce. \nOn leaving the Commons in 2015\, William was made a life peer and has since then devoted his time to charity\, business and journalism. Spending one day in Fontainebleau will not only give you an insight into the splendours of the Château\, but also a chance to live like a Bellifontain(e)\, experiencing one of the most prestigious annual events of the City\, the Chocolate Salon. \nHow about a delicious lunch to start with at « Il Primo Bacio» the famous Italian restaurant a few steps away from the Château? \n \nAfter lunch\, a speaker will introduce you to the realm of INSEAD Fontainebleau\, the renowned European campus of one of the world’s leading graduate Business Schools.\nYou will also enjoy visiting the annual Chocolate Salon\, the 9th edition this year! taking place at the Château itself\, outdoors (Cour Ovale) and indoors\, and you will discover rooms that are usually closed to the public (Galerie des Cerfs and Salle des Colonnes \n« Salon Impérial Chocolat et Gastronomie » \nsupervised by the famous Chef Fréderic Cassel\, who owns a store in Fontainebleau. The making of chocolate\, tasting\, chocolate sculptures of animals and famous Parisians monuments\, conferences. The salon lasts three days from Friday 27 through to Sunday 29 November – although our visit is planned for Saturday afternoon. \nTo book your tickets for the lunch and the Salon\, go to the tickets section below. \nIf you wish\, either before the lunch or after the Salon\, you could also visit the Château\, one of the most sumptuously furnished of France’s Châteaux\, home to France’s sovereign rulers for eight centuries\, or follow the Salon with a tour of the town with Sylvie\, who lives and works in the city\, or just stroll along the streets of Fontainebleau on your own. \n \nFor those of you who would like to stay overnight and enjoy the Sunday morning market\, there are many options. Sylvie can easily advise you if you need directions or advice. \nAll the details: \n\nTRAIN INFORMATION\n\n\nDeparture from Hall 1 Gare de Lyon (where the restaurant « Le Train Bleu » is located) \nDeparture time at 10:15 am \n\nArrival time at Fontainebleau-Avon 10:56 am\n(there are 3 stops: Melun; then Bois le Roi; then Fontainebleau-Avon where you get off the train – the train continues to Montargis and other towns). The train ride lasts 40 minutes. They are Transilien/TER surface trains. Trains usually run every 30 minutes but please aim for the 10:15 train leaving Gare de Lyon as that means Sylvie can meet you at the Fontainebleau-Avon station.\nTickets are €2.55 one way on your Navigo card (buy two fares so you don’t have to worry about the return). You can buy tickets from the machines located near the departure platform (usually one of letters J\, M\, or N).\n\n\nBUS INFORMATION \n\n\nWhen you arrive at Fontainebleau-Avion station\, Sylvie will be there on the platform where you get off to welcome you. \nA city bus Nr 3401 will take us to the Château. Bus tickets cost €2.50. A fifteen-minute ride. \nWe’ll get off in front of the Chateau\, so you can see the main gate and admire the beautiful horseshoe staircase. The restaurant is just a ten-minute walk from the bus stop through the gardens of the Château. \n\n\nMAKING YOUR OWN WAY TO FONTAINEBLEAU\n\nYou can\, of course\, decide to travel to Fontainebleau in your car. In that case\, please make sure you arrive at the restaurant\, 3 rue Montebello\, no later than 12:00 noon.\n\n\n4. RESTAURANT INFORMATION – Il Primo Bacio\, 3 Rue Montebello\, Fontainebleau –Telephone: 01 60 72 74 36\n \n\nWe have reserved a privatised room. \nAn Italian 3-course meal: shared appetizers\, main course and dessert. \nAperitif – Kir or soft drink – and one glass of wine or soft drink with the meal are included. \nAfter the meal\, our speaker is Mrs Laura ERHARD\, Insead Fontainebleau. Her presentation will be in English. \n\n \n\n« SALON IMPERIAL CHOCOLAT ET GASTRONOMIE » \n\n\nAfter lunch and the speaker’s address\, you will have a chance to visit the Chocolate Salon with several opportunities to taste various kinds of chocolate including chocolate champagne! If you are not coming for lunch\, but only the Salon\, please arrive at the restaurant at 14:30 to get your Salon ticket and walk to the Salon with the rest of the group. \n\n\nBus back to Fontainebleau-Avon railway station and train to Paris \n\nSylvie will indicate the location of the bus station in town\, so that everyone can go back to the railway station\, according to their own schedules.  There are trains approximately every 30 minutes back to Paris\, Gare de Lyon from Platform 2 – entrance through the main hall of the station.\n  \n\nCost of the Fontainebleau outing per person: \n\n\nWhen you book\, you will pay for your lunch and for the ticket to the Chocolate Salon. \nLunch: 40 € per person (please indicate any dietary requirements) \nEntrance fee to the Chocolat Salon (located at point 4 on the map): 9 € per person \nYou can either buy a combined Lunch/Salon ticket\, or opt to only attend the lunch\, or only attend the Salon and then make your own plans for the rest of the day. \n\n \n\nOther costs\, not included in the above\n\n\nTravel to Fontainebleau and back to Paris\, whether by Train and Bus or in your own car\, is not included in your payment to the Society. As indicated above\, the train costs €2.55 and the bus €2.50\, both each way. \nIf you intend to travel in your car\, parking is available at various car parks in the centre of town. You can pre-reserve a place at one of the Interparking car parks and an indicative price is €12.10 from 11:30 am to 5:00 pm. \nTickets for the optional visit to the Château are €17 per person.
