His term of office (1997-2003) included 9/11 and the preparations for the invasion of Iraq. After retiring in 2003\, he was Chairman of the Press Complaints Commission for 6 years. He has run his own consultancy\, published three books\, and made several documentaries for television and radio\, notably the 6-part Networks of Power for Sky Atlantic in 2012. He is now a member of the advisory boards of Pagefield Communications and British-American Business; a director of the Arbuthnot Banking Group; and a Fellow of Peterhouse\, Cambridge\, and of the Royal United Services Institute. He is a regular media commentator on international affairs and is writing a novel. He is married to the Baroness Meyer CBE of Nine Elms\, the founder of Action Against Abduction. This year\, we have challenged the Oxford University Society of Paris\, and I am very pleased to say that they too have picked up the gauntlet. The event will be held at Le Connetable restaurant in the Marais\, at 55 rue des Archives\, and the motion will be “This House believes that President Trump is doing a good job for America”. Edward Archer and Pierre Caquet will be speaking for Cambridge\, and Oxford will field two of their best speakers in response.The evening will start with an aperitif at 19h\, followed by dinner in the delightful candlelit Le Connetable restaurant where we have privatised the whole of the first floor\, all for a price of 35€\, including drinks and coffee. The debate will take place at the end of dinner\, and the evening will close at 22h.
